UMF vs MGO
UMF (Unique Mānuka Factor) is the gold standard certification from New Zealand's independent UMF Honey Association. MGO measures only one compound — methylglyoxal. UMF measures MGO, DHA, leptosperin and HMF together, providing a complete picture of authenticity and potency.
Why Certification Matters
Of the roughly 10,000 tonnes of mānuka honey sold globally each year, only around 1,700 tonnes are actually produced in New Zealand. Without a UMF licence number, there is no independent verification that what you're buying is genuine mānuka at the stated potency.
